About this cause

The 'Friday at Tilly's' group was formed to provide a weekly social gathering for older people of any or no faith in the village who would otherwise not have a time or a place to meet. It addresses the twin issues of isolation and loneliness that older people face and it also offers a useful forum where individuals may receive pastoral care and/or practical help and advice. There is no formal age restriction, but most who attend are in their 70’s and beyond. Many are widows or widowers. The group provides a point of contact for members of Cheshire East Council with a particular interest in the provision of services to older people. Occasional trips out are organised and a free Christmas lunch is provided each year. ‘Significant’ birthdays are invariably marked.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The project brings people together and builds relationships. Many who use it are widows and widowers struggling to come to terms with life alone. There is no other facility or organisation in the locale which can meet these needs.
