About this cause

Larkhall & District Volunteer Group is a voluntary organisation, formed in September 1994 as 'Avondale Careline' to provide a friendly chat on the phone to elderly, disabled and housebound people. The services provided have been expanded since 2000 to meet the recognised needs of socially isolated over 55's within the local community, some of which can be seen below; Call Line service - provided to over 35 individuals on a daily basis. Lunch clubs - we facilitate 12 lunch clubs on a weekly basis, over 6 locations Handyperson service - for non-professional jobs Thursday evening support group Community transport - LDVG have 3 minibuses Walking groups - as directed by the participants. Gardening Group, IT + Genealogy classes weekly Keep Fit classes - twice weekly Tea dance - monthly.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We currently support over 200 over 55's in Larkhall and surrounding areas through our existing program of activities. In addition to this, we support local schools, after school care, churches, community groups and we are a main contributor to the Gypsy Traveller Education program who access our transport service. This group have reported an increase in participation due to the use of our buses.
