Colne Valley Air Cadet Wind Tunnel Project
Education & Skills
We want to build a wind tunnel to inspire the next generation to pursue careers in science, technology, mathematics and engineering.
About this cause
We are a voluntary organisation providing activities of a practical nature aimed at fostering the spirit of adventure for young adults aged 12 to 20. Activities include sport, adventurous training, ceremonial drill, shooting, archery, field-craft, powered aircraft and glider flying and first aid. Academic studies in aviation and based on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) lead towards a BTEC. The Unit supports the local community during public celebrations, parades, ceremonial and commemoration events. All of which is brought together in the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme. The progressive training develops diverse personal qualities developing good citizens, who show initiative, are resourceful and can work independently or as a successful member of a team.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The next generation will have their imaginations sparked and be inspired to take up careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, by their direct involvement in the plan, design and construction of the wind tunnel. The visits will involve additional cadets and staff, followed up by presentations of the project and demonstrations of the wind tunnel to all Essex ATC Units.
