The Sunnybank Trust
Social Inclusion
We want to ensure everyone with a learning disability has a friend. Costs will cover salaries, expenses, and recruitment.
About this cause
The Sunnybank Trust supports adults with learning disabilities to live the lives they choose. We help vulnerable and isolated people make connections in the community, protect them from abuse, and help develop the social skills & confidence needed to thrive. Our services are: Advocacy – volunteer advocates support people with learning disabilities to have their voices heard. Friendship – volunteer friends socialise with or write letters to people with learning disabilities. The Happy Kings & Queens Drama Group – meet weekly to develop inclusive shows & have fun! Kites Club – a weekly social club to try new activities, develop skills & see friends. Swag Club - a monthly 16-30's social club run by and for young people with learning disabilities
How this cause brings people in the community together
By creating more links between the general public and those with learning disabilities we will raise awareness of learning disabilities, and thus tackle stigma through exposure. By helping include isolated people with learning disabilities we enrich the community by making it more inclusive and welcoming to all. We encourage friendships and human connections - a mutual benefit for all involved.
