About this cause

Our members are people who have been treated for cancer, most often breast cancer, or family members and friends or other supporters. We paddle two dragon boats on Windermere at Low Wood Bay near Ambleside between Easter and October . This exercise helps health and wellbeing both during and after treatment and also ameliorates some of the effects of treatment such as lymphoedema and tiredness. The friendship, shared experience and team spirit of paddling can be extremely supportive after a cancer diagnosis. Many of our paddlers come from Ambleside, Windermere and Kendal and they find fantastic support during a challenging time of their lives. In 2017 we are celebrating our 10th season of dragon boating on Lake Windermere.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We have between 20 - 50 cancer survivors and supporters who join together each Sunday during our season from local communities. This exercise helps health and wellbeing both during and after cancer treatment . The friendship, shared experience and team spirit of paddling is extremely supportive after a cancer diagnosis especially in rural village communities like Ambleside and Windermere .
