About this cause

Our band is made up of local people & many are youngsters. We play at Kilbarchan's annual gala day, Remembrance Day, Erskine Hospital and at St Vincent’s Hospice events. We charge nothing for these performances. We also hold outdoor concerts in Steeple Square, Kilbarchan. We teach local youngsters (and some not so youngsters!). These lessons take place on Thursday and Sunday evenings at Kilbarchan Scout Hall. Also, one of our senior pipers has taught chanter at Kilbarchan Primary Scool for many years. All these lessons are free of charge. We receive no financial assistance from sponsors, the main part of our income comes from monthly subscriptions. Many local youngsters, who started off as beginners, now play in the band. Our objective is to have a juvenile band very soon.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Kilbarchan Pipe Band folded in the early seventies and we re-started in 2002. Since then we have given many local youngsters the opportunity to learn a skill that they will have for the rest of their lives. The support and encouragement we have received from the local community is humbling and marching up the street on Lilas Day, being cheered on by the crowd, is just brilliant for everyone.
