We will subsidise quarterly social activities for people with breast cancer including a coach trip, theatre visit and meals.
About this cause
We support people in the community who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. We are a non medical group, run by volunteers, providing monthly meetings with talks given by the medical profession and therapists. We offer one to one and group support and weekly pilates classes. This support reduces stress and anxiety thereby leading to less vists to GPs. We advance the education of the local community on the subject of breast cancer in particular the importance of screening. Our volunteers, who have all had a breast cancer diagnosis, visit community groups and local events. They provide information and share their experiences encouraging people to self examine and to attend screening as the earlier the diagnosis the better the outcome.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Knowsley is the second poorest borough in the country, many of our members are on benefits or low pay due to approx. 12 months surgery/treatment. This project enables them to afford & enjoy the company of others in a similar position not affecting the family budget. This support will lead to a happier more knowledgeable and less stressful time of their life. The knock on effect will benefit all.
