St Ives Sailing Club
Sport
We are looking for donations for a new club sailing boat to allow us to get more local people sailing in the town of St Ives.
About this cause
St Ives Sailing Club is a 45-year-old community sailing club, based in the seaside town of St Ives. Sailing twice a week, from our modest club facilities that include a small changing area and boat storage. It is essential that towns offer their communities the opportunity to participate in sports and social activities that are part of the town's heritage, to enhance the understanding of our history, but also to develop well rounded members of the community. Sailing is physically demanding and requires team work, that in itself ensures that it is good for building local relationships, crossing generational boundaries, and improving communication skills between participants; skills that they can subsequently apply in the local community.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Building the community membership, also serves to support the development of stronger relationships within the community. Particularly cross generational. In a town that sees sharp contrasts in financial income and changes in its seasonal demographic due to tourism and second home ownership, building community membership supports the build of those wider community relationships.
