About this cause
Ronald McDonald house Bristol provides FREE 'home from home' accommodation and support to families with a critically ill child who is being treated in Bristol Royal Hospital for children. The families we look after come from Bristol as well as from all over the South West of England and Wales, as well as further afield to receive specialist treatment in Bristol. We are a 21 bedroomed house - all with ensuite bathrooms and we also have a lounge and playroom, kitchens and gardens. The aim is that we can support the whole family practically and emotionally at our house and provide them with home comforts whilst they are caring for their child who is in hospital. The proximity of our house to the hospital means a parent can be at their child's bedside in a matter of minutes.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Following the refurbishment all of the families who stay with us in the future will benefit. Many come from the local community as well as from the South West of England. The kitchen is the part of the house where families can spend time together and retain a sense of normality whilst going through one of the most traumatic times of their life - that of having a critically ill child in hospital.
