About this cause

We rehabilitate and support Nottingham people who have become disabled following a brain injury, through, for eg. car accident, assault, stroke or brain tumour. At the point of suddenly sustaining the injury people's lives can change beyond recognition. They may suddenly be dependent on a wheelchair or walker, struggle with personality changes, loss of memory, reading and writing skills and cannot speak or communicate with family and friends. Carers and loved ones are often left alone to cope at a time when they are 'grieving' for the person they remember before the injury. Our support builds confidence, addresses the complex effects of brain injury and supports vulnerable people to play an active part in their communities and friendship groups. A life after brain injury is still a life.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Brain injury is a growing problem with someone admitted to hospital every 90 seconds in the UK. 37% of those we support have waited over ten years to access specialised help and as a result become vulnerable and socially isolated. We could improve support pathways for everyone with brain injuries, providing fulfilment, hope and friendship, and the chance to live a life not defined by disability.
