Breathing Space
Social Inclusion
We would use the money to subsidise the travel costs of the buses we use to take members out and about on trips and activities.
About this cause
we offer a programme of social activities to Adults with learning disabilities living in Hambleton and Richmondshire. We assist them to get out and about meeting and making friends, enjoying the type of activity their siblings might do but they cannot without carer support, ( basically they go out to have fun). This helps reduce loneliness and isolation and also offers families some respite time whilst they are with us. To do this we need a specialised bus with wheelchair access and trained staff as well as many volunteers.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Adults with learning disabilities are disadvantaged in the local community and many feel unable to meet friends etc. especially in the evenings without support. Using local amenities as much as possible we encourage them to feel they can maybe do this alone as well. Loneliness and isolation are a big problem which can lead to mental health issues and we fill a important role in reducing this.
