About this cause

Hope in the Community is a registered charity established to provide an umbrella of support for faith and voluntary sector groups who are seeking to regenerate the communities within which they serve, in this case Bournemouth & Poole. In the past, the charity has supported a £60K development project to provide for an IT Centre, Library and Community facility at a chapel on the Isle of Grain; most recently they equipped and ran the Medway foodbank. The charity is now concentrating on a new project in the Bournemouth and Poole area with the aim of combining the resources, compassion and localness of the churches to “re-connect” 1000 older people back into their community so that we stop the increase in loneliness in our towns.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Older people have much to give: skills, experience and time: this project is about helping those who have got a bit isolated to reconnect with their local community, so rebuilding their self-confidence, improving their mental well-being, and creating a virtuous spiral as they in turn then help others. It will also reduce costly repeat visits to doctor or health-care for non-clinical support.
