South Leicestershire District Scouts
Young People
Our aim is to raise £12,000 to help contribute towards the cost of sending approximately 50 scout members to nationwide experiences.
About this cause
South Leicestershire District Scouts has a membership of 882 young people and adults, with a starting age of 6 yrs old. We currently have Scout Groups in the following villages - Cosby, Countesthorpe, Huncote, Broughton Astley, Gilmorton, South Kilworth, Lutterworth, Leire & Dunton Bassett, Claybrooke & Ullesthorpe. Our aim is to ensure that any activities are accessible to ALL members irrespective of cost. We are currently trying to raise funds to help support members who are attending future events such as Jamborees and International Scout Camps (e.g. Charnwood International Scout Camp which is actually held in Leicestershire). Our youth members benefit hugely from being able to meet & interact with other young people from both within the U.K. & those visiting from other countries.
How this cause brings people in the community together
South Leics District comprises of Scout Groups which are predominantly in rural villages. There is often very little for the young people in these areas to do outside of school. Scout Groups give members the opportunity to come together to take part in activities & also gives the older youth members the chance to have an input into how their groups are run. This is important in small communities.
