About this cause

Team's objective is to relieve suffering and distress among persons endangered by accidents or natural hazards, by the provision and maintenance of a trained rescue team to operate throughout County Durham, or any other place, if requested. Team searches for and rescues injured and/or lost climbers, cavers, walkers or helps rescue animals. Team very often is requested to search urban and semi-urban settings for missing vulnerable persons. Team provides technical rescue from remote and difficult to access locations in support of the police and ambulance. We provide medical cover for the snowed off and flooded areas. Team is written into the Durham County Council's contingency plan. We are all unpaid volunteers and totally depend on public donations in order to operate.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The main role of the vehicle is to support and manage search and rescue operations. Comms in the vehicle allow to undertake coordinated actions together with other emergency services including air ambulance or Coastguard helicopter to provide best possible response as the situation unfolds. With its 4x4 capacity it can operate in remote and snowed off areas unavailable for other services.
