About this cause
Kingdon House (a grade 2 listed Arts and Craft Style building in the heart of Tavistock) has been home to a Community Association for 40 years. We offer safe, affordable space, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds from Tavistock and surrounding villages. Our objectives are to maintain a Community Centre and working with all parts of the community to provide facilities to advance well being, life long education, and social welfare. We currently are 'home' to groups offering; Support and advice - Citizens Advice, AA; Drama, including drama for young people and isolated adults with learning disabilities; Dance for children and older people; Physical movement - yoga (from pre school to over 80), Pilates; Art - Life Drawing, Sculpture to Experimental Art for the 'over 50s'.
How this cause brings people in the community together
A dry building allows us to improve the inside and continue with plans to redevelop the lower floor to create more accessible space. Kingdon House will buzz with activities including art, dance, music, theatre, yoga/pilates, with advice and support groups. Our focus is the wellbeing and mental health of the whole community offering opportunities for us to 'connect, be active and keep learning'.
