Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust
Community Development
We want to extend our subsidised equine assisted learning programme from term time to include weekends and holidays.
About this cause
Our Charity was created to preserve the Dartmoor pony on Dartmoor and to educate and inform the general public. We carry out a range of activities to add value to and promote the benefits of the Dartmoor pony, particularly for conservation grazing; and to support the efforts of the pony breeders on Dartmoor to manage and ensure the sustainability of pony herds on the Moor. In addition, we use Dartmoor ponies to deliver a range of equine assisted learning programmes to students of all ages and abilities, from across Devon. Students benefit from gaining a variety of skills to overcome their life challenges, whether physical, emotional or behavioural and within both mainstream and special needs schools.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Increase knowledge of Dartmoor, the Pony and its importance to conservation. Increase local provision for families, enabling them to share time learning together and overcoming some of the challenges faced by families. Learning will be carried out over weekends using our Dartmoor Ponies at Parke and on Dartmoor. All members of the community can visit for free. New opportunities for volunteering.
