About this cause

We are a community amateur sports club which offers rowing to all people of the community from 12 years upwards. We pride ourselves on being a friendly club with a welcoming atmosphere. As well as a number of local schools, we also work with local community groups including Spelthorne Sports Council, Spelthorne and Runnymede Borough Councils, Active Surrey and the Explore Rowing project of British Rowing.  We also do “one off sessions” for local community groups such as Scouts. These sessions can be tailored for the group's needs and can be focused on fun, learning and development and confidence building. We are working with local councils to offer more activities to non active people and have successfully offered learn to row sessions for adults with 30% of them over 50.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We have produced a 5 year community engagement plan and rowing development plan to show how with a larger more modern boathouse we can offer local community groups the opportunity to use our facility as well as our current members. A particular focus is for activities for the elderly via MIND, AGE UK or local CCG links as the local Town Hall or community centres are a bus ride away.
