We wish to buy a floating pontoon in order to safely enable the children aged 10-18 years to get into our boats to train on the River Lagan.
About this cause
Lisburn Sea Cadets is a charity dedicated to providing activities based on a maritime theme for children aged between 10-18 years old. We rely solely on our volunteers to provide excellent training and boating activities for these children in order to steer them away from anti-social behavior and/or criminal activity. Many of our children come from financially disadvantaged areas of Lisburn and surrounding areas. The children learn how to be part of a team but also leadership skills. They can gain qualifications in sailing, power boating, rowing and also in classroom based activities such as first aid and seamanship skills. It enables these children to make friends and increase their confidence and it also has a positive impact on their concentration at school and career prospects.
How this cause brings people in the community together
It will help the local community as the children will receive qualifications in rowing and power boating. They will develop a great sense of achievement, teamwork and leadership skills which will be evidenced by improved concentration at school and the ability to make friends. Other families from the local area will get involved as our training is on a highly visible stretch of the River Lagan.
