About this cause

The Swanage Railway Trust is a registered charity responsible for preserving the heritage of the railways of the Isle of Purbeck and re-establishing a rail link between Swanage and the national rail network at Wareham. Steam trains run on most days of the year between Swanage, the historic village of Corfe Castle and Norden six miles away. Swanage Railway aims to give visitors a pleasurable experience. There is something exciting and entertaining travelling by steam train that enthrals all ages. Swanage Railway provides paid employment in an area of limited opportunity. Volunteers participate for many reasons. Many of our younger volunteers join as a stepping stone to employment on the national rail network We are heavily dependent on volunteers and donations to fund our work.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Providing step free fully accessible toilets will benefit the entire community particularly those who are discouraged from venturing out by fear of their not being toilet facilities when needed. Having fully accessible toilets not only provides a much needed and used facility it also enhances the independence of those who require such facilities and encourages social inclusion.
