We want to buy a larger, commercial-sized oven, to enable us to cook a wider variety of meals for more people.
About this cause
The Bank Top Cafe was set up in 2013 as a joint initiative between Dawley Bank Group and Dawley Baptist Church, and continues to be run by volunteers from the church and the local community. The aim is to provide a safe and friendly environment for those who live on the Bank, enabling them to meet each Friday and enjoy a free, simple yet nutritious lunch. We also offer a variety of activities to engage with e.g. Bingo and a Quiz, these vary week by week. All are welcome to join us any Friday between 11.30 and 2pm. Lunches are not charged for, but there are opportunities to make a donation towards the ongoing costs of the cafe if people are able. Transport is available for those with mobility issues.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Every Friday we serve a 2-course hot lunch to around 30 people from the local community. Not just a free lunch - the 'Bank Top Cafe' offers friendship, conversation and respite from loneliness and isolation. We host a monthly prize bingo session and a monthly quiz, and also organise trips and special events e.g. our summer BBQ and Christmas Dinner.
