About this cause

The Woodcraft Folk in a national charity started in Lewisham in 1925. Our volunteers provide weekly group nights, activities and camps for young people. At group nights children play, sing, do craft and debate. At camps the children can enjoy the outdoors as well as learning to live and co -operate with others. We aim that our young people have fun but also emphasise co-operation, an awareness of the wider society, the environment and developing the children’s self confidence. We are proud that many of our young people come back to help as leaders. We hope that through participation our young people understand about issues such as world debt, global conflict and sustainable development and will go out to help build a peaceful, fairer world.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our young people learn to consider wider issues and to be listened to. This helps them to be responsible citizens, participating in the democratic processes, with many actively campaigning for a better world, We are volunteer led many of the leaders being former child members and so have demonstrated our commitment to developing our community.
