Money means we can offer free packs to charities whose service users would very much benefit from a starter pack of household essentials.
About this cause
We are a charity based in Govan operating all over Glasgow to alleviate poverty and prevent people from returning to homelessness by providing packs of household goods including pots, pans, crockery, utensils, bedding, towels, kettle, toaster to those moving into a new tenancy. Some items are donated to us encouraging our ethos of reuse/recycle, however a lot of items need to be purchased new due to hygiene reasons or so that we can keep up with demand as the number of packs we issue keeps increasing. We work through referrals from housing associations and other organisations who identify people needing support, we are able to help hundreds of individuals/families every year but know there are still many people not getting the support they should and we want to reach those people too.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our research and feedback from people receiving the packs has shown they help alleviate poverty and benefit the physical and mental health and well being of a recipient. They do not have to get into debt to afford household basics. Many of our packs are delivered in G51 area and alleviating poverty in this area benefits the individual as well as the overall community.
