About this cause
Adur Community Leisure is a registered charity trading as Impulse Leisure. Our mission is 'to create active and healthy communities.' We are dedicated to improving the quality of life in our local communities by providing affordable leisure opportunities. We are also believe everyone has the right to access their community, including sport and leisure activities. Our Community Pool, Wadurs, was built in 1993 and was campaigned for heavily by the local community, some of which still use the pool to this day. With a programme offering a range of swimming activities from over 50’s sessions to the Swim School that teaches swimming to over 800 children and adults each week this facility is a real centre point for the local community.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Since it opened in 1993 and with 80,000 visits a year, our facilities have become less suitable for the needs of our users. There is a disabled changing room but it is very small and does not have a changing bed or hoist so is not an accessible or dignified facility for our disabled users. With support from their carers, many of our disabled users have to get changed on the floor.
