Theodora Children's Charity
Health
We want to pay for Giggle Doctor visits at Leeds General Infirmary to improve the wellbeing of sick and disabled children.
About this cause
Receiving treatment in hospital for children can be an incredibly frightening and distressing experience. They are surrounded by scary looking equipment, strange noises and smells and they may not fully understand what is wrong with them or why they are undergoing medical procedures. At the Theodora Children’s Charity we believe that all children deserve laughter. The heart of our mission is to improve the well-being of sick and disabled children in hospitals, hospices and specialist care centres. We do this by providing ‘Giggle Doctor’s’, who are specially trained to bring joy and laughter to poorly children at a time when they need it most. We aim to reduce distress and anxiety, Increase opportunities for play in the healthcare environment and Improve well-being.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our project will have a wide reach within the community, benefiting children and families that find themselves going through the difficult situation of having or being a child receiving treatment in hospital. For children, hospital visits can result in feelings of fear, boredom and isolation. Our Giggle Doctors offer opportunities for play and happy memories at a time when it is needed most.
