About this cause

Ayrshire Cancer Support provides practical and emotional support to Ayrshire's residents (approx 380,000) who have been affected by cancer. We operate from two centres, one in Kilmarnock, the other in Wellington Square in Ayr. We provide hospital transport, from areas as far south as Ballantrae and Girvan to life saving hospital treatment in Glasgow and occasionally beyond. In total in 2016 we undertook over 12,000 journeys for patients. In addition, our centres provide counselling and a range of therapies to cancer patients as well as to their families. The West of Scotland has one of the highest incidences of cancer, has towns and villages within which are high on the Scottish index of Multiple Deprivation, and has poor transport links.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The project will ensure people who are unable to fund their journey to hospital, or are too unfit can get the lifesaving treatment they are entitled to. This means more people within the community have a successful outcome after a cancer diagnosis.
