About this cause

We are a UK charity providing bespoke therapy to military personnel, veterans, reservists & family members dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) & other mental health issues. Established 2010, numbers supported has risen from 10 in Y1 to 50 in Y6, totalling over 220. We help men & women who, having served our country, come with often complex issues (anger, flashbacks, nightmares, relationship &/or employment difficulties), resulting in social isolation, self-medication (alcohol, drugs) & in around 20% of cases, thoughts of suicide. Based in Durham, we provide support across the North East. Our therapists come from those we have supported, so they have served in HM Armed Forces, have suffered mental health issues, have received support from us & have trained as therapists.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our centre will be in Sunderland whose catchment area has a number of high deprivation areas: East End, Hendon, West Side and Southwick (North), several housing hostels close to the High Street, and a 1.9% BME population residing close to the centre. Our location also places us in perfect hotspot areas for those may need our clinical services, but who are currently unaware of our services.
