About this cause

DCFA collects surplus food supplies; redistributing these, via a network of up to 40 community partners, to some of Plymouth's most vulnerable community members. A small charity, we have, to date, transferred over 270 tonnes of supplies with a retail value of over £800,000. Run almost entirely by volunteers we are grant funded and rely heavily on successful bids, sponsorship and donations. Our recipients include the elderly, the homeless, refugees, families, those in rehab or care for mental illness and, in Plymouth, our veterans community.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The hubs will provide support in some of Plymouth's most impoverished neighbourhoods; where food poverty is already a recognised challenge. It will alleviate 'holiday hunger', improve health, nutrition and well-being and bring people together to share food related skills and support. As well as supporting the communities involved, the project will have an overall impact on Plymouth as a whole.
