About this cause

Kirkby Stephen Community Sports Association runs and looks after the All Weather Pitch at Kirkby Stephen Grammar School. The pitch provides a space for primary and secondary aged children to join sports clubs and play regular sport and adults to keep fit through social sport e.g. 5 a side football leagues and hockey fun evenings. School children benefit in their PE lesson and extra curricular activities. North of England and Cumbria league hockey matches and county tournaments are regularly played here along with Young Farmers sports competitions and National Sports Governing Body training courses. The pitch is now over twenty years old and is in need of replacement this will cost nearly £200 000 pounds so any support that can be given would be very much appreciated. Many Thanks.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Over 600 adults and young people use the all weather pitch on a regular basis. This enables them to develop team work and social skills, alongside physical and mental health benefits that physical activity develops. Keeping people active and focused reduces crime and anti social behaviour and our pitch is accessible to all social economic backgrounds so everyone can benefit from using the pitch.
