About this cause
We are parent led and parent run group for young people with additional needs. We currently have 24 club members, some who are sibling members with a sibling with additional needs. Our main aim is to enable all our young people to gain confidence in the water in a safe and relaxed environment. The majority of our young people require 1 to 1 assistance in the water. We rely heavily on volunteers, whose ages range from 15 upwards – many are university students (including physiotherapy, O.T. and medical students) so their availability is dependent on university term dates. We meet on Sunday afternoons during Cardiff School term time and we have exclusive use of the pool for our sessions.
How this cause brings people in the community together
More families will be able to benefit from gaining confidence in the water and learning how to swim in a safe and secure environment where they feel comfortable and at ease. The club celebrates its 45th birthday in July 2018.
