About this cause
West Mercia Search & Rescue (WMSAR) is a specialist team of volunteers who assist the emergency services to locate vulnerable people who are at risk on land or water. Our typical callout is to locate high-risk, vulnerable people such as those with dementia, mental health problems, suicidal thoughts or missing children - and to rescue those trapped by floods and dangerous conditions. We do not charge for this service and we are on call 24 hours a day to help. Our members who fund their own fuel, uniform, and personal safety equipment are also tasked with raising money to cover the costs of running the team. This opportunity will provide us with much needed funds ensuring the charity remains operational.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We provide a professional service but we are all volunteers. This project will assist the community because we work closely with the emergency services. When they call upon us it means that they can continue with their normal work whilst we search on their behalf. We are all experienced qualified search technicians, looking to serve the local community.
