About this cause

ECPAT UK is a leading children's rights organisation working to protect children from child trafficking and transnational child exploitation. We support children everywhere to uphold their rights and to live a life free from abuse and exploitation. Around 1000 children were trafficked to the UK in 2016, but this is likely to be the tip of the iceberg. Our aim is to improve the lives of trafficked children in the UK. We run youth groups for 80 trafficked children in London and Manchester, train front-line professionals to work with trafficked children (around 2000 last year), publish research on child trafficking in the UK and defend the rights of trafficked children through our policy, advocacy and campaigns programme. Our expertise heavily influenced the Government's Modern Slavery Act.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Child trafficking affects every community in the UK, and young people in care are at particular risk of exploitation. ECPAT UK's specialist youth programme helps young victims make friends with others who have been trafficked. This reduces their sense of isolation and shame. Confidence boosting workshops help young people speak up for their rights and avoid abusive or exploitative relationships.
