About this cause

Extratime is a charity founded by parents to give severely disabled children and young people the opportunity to play, have fun and make new friends with all the support they need to enjoy the activities on offer. Our after-school clubs, holiday play and youth schemes, weekly youth club and family fun days give children and young people (aged 4 to 25 years) with severe disabilities and challenging behaviour the chance to have fun as well as developing their social skills. Our services also give parent carers a break from the responsibilities of caring for their disabled, complex children - they may be able to return to work or spend time with their non-disabled children, whose needs are often overlooked amidst the pressures of caring for their disabled sibling.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Children with disabilities and additional needs are often unable to access play and leisure activities in the community and can become lonely and isolated. With the support of this funding, Extratime will be able to take them out and support them to enjoy all that their community has to offer. By increasing engagement and activity in their community, these projects will improve social cohesion.
