About this cause

We are a local charity covering Scarborough, Whitby & Ryedale, providing free & confidential support for unpaid carers from the age of 8 upwards. A carer is someone who looks after a family member or friend when they have an illness, condition, a disability or are elderly. 3 in 5 of us will become a carer in our lives. Often carers struggle with the day to day responsibilities of supporting others, overlooking their own health problems and not maintaining a life of their own. Carers Resource focus on reducing the stress of caring by providing a listening ear, offering relevant advice & information & if appropriate signposting onto other services. We also help to maximise carers income, guide carers through the red tape of authority and help their voices be heard at strategic level.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Caring effects 2 out of 5 of us and carers in the community are particularly vulnerable to stress, anxiety, depression and constant illnesses. Mindfulness is known to help with stress, anxiety and burn out. It can provide the tools to develop resilience and feeling more in control of thoughts, feelings and emotions. It can also boost confidence and help carers be less isolated in their community.
