About this cause

The Purbeck Film Charitable Trust serves the local community of Wareham and Purbeck in several ways; by providing a local, not for profit community cinema in the heart of Wareham, opening 7 days a week, 363 days of the year, run almost entirely by volunteers and bringing film to the local community; we also operate the longest running rural film festival in the country. The main objectives for the Rex Cinema and the Film Festival are to bring films to rural communities and to give people an opportunity to enjoy and learn from the richest, most diverse range of British and international film making (a mission statement shared with the BFI); and to support those with a disability including hard of hearing, dementia and autism friendly screenings.

How this cause brings people in the community together

A new projector and server will enable us to keep films on the screen for our community seven nights a week throughout the year with matinees for children throughout the school holidays. We also do special screenings for the elderly, hard of hearing, those with dementia and for autistic children. The Rex is a much loved centre of our local community and is staffed by some 35 volunteers
