About this cause

We are a local museum and working windmill which provides volunteering opportunities for the local community and provides a wider audience with an insight into past Fen edge life. We are very proud of our fully restored windmill which is a local landmark. Our fundraising focuses on the upkeep of the mill. Our current project is restoring the mill so it runs via steam power as well as wind. This is a very rare feature allowing the mill to work in all weathers. We have identified an issue with accessing the mill for those with poor mobility, in wheelchairs or with pushchairs, especially following poor weather. We very much see the windmill as a community resource which should be open to all regardless of disability or mobility issues. We seek a grant to improve access to this mill.

How this cause brings people in the community together

As the population of Burwell and the surrounding villages grows older, more and more people will have difficulty accessing services like the museum. We want to be accessible to as many members of our community for as long as possible, allowing them to enjoy their heritage and to do fulfilling work as members of our volunteer team.
