About this cause

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is the leading nature conservation charity working across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and our local seas. We protect vulnerable wildlife and wild places so nature can thrive. Together with the UK-wide partnership of 47 Wildlife Trusts, we are determined to stand up for and speak out for wildlife everywhere. We look after 50 nature reserves including heathlands, grasslands, woodlands and wetlands and provide precious spaces for wildlife to flourish. Through our habitat restoration work we are reversing the decline in local wildlife . We inspire people to love nature and help them to get involved in protecting it, improving their local environment for wildlife and volunteering their time, all the time improving their health and wellbeing.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We have been running successful sessions on the Isle of Wight for 3 years now so we know from direct experience that they are beneficial for mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and dementia. People who have struggled to leave the house, socialise or work have found calmness, and managed to become more integrated into their local community including volunteering.
