About this cause
Mencap works with people in Kirklees who have learning disabilities, and with their families and carers, to enable them to lead full and purposeful lives. Mencap in Kirklees support people with a learning disability, and their families and carers, by providing a range of services to better help people with a learning disability to learn new skills, become less socially isolated and more part of their local communities, and have new experiences. Our vision is a world where people with a learning disability can be valued equally, listened to and included. We want everyone with a learning disability in the Kirklees area to have the opportunity to achieve the things they want from life.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Almost 1 in 3 young people with a learning disability spend less than 1 hour outside their home on a typical Saturday. The project will enable young people with a learning disability to feel less isolated and better connected to the local community. It will be beneficial in raising awareness of learning disability in the local community and improve attitudes by making the community more inclusive.
