We want to purchase dementia specific equipment for our Dementia Hub which will be available for people to loan and use in their own homes.
About this cause
We deliver services to support older people to remain independent in their own homes throughout the mainland of Orkney and the isles, these services include providing advice and information, a home help service, a daily phone call and a gardening service. Working in partnership with Dementia Friendly Orkney, who are the only local group with a specific remit to create a Dementia Friendly Community, our new project "Dementia Orkney" aims to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia, their carers/families through projects which promote health and well-being, resilience, equality, access and inclusion. In Orkney, we have a low diagnostic rate for dementia which is locally attributed to a perceived lack of support and awareness in communities, this project will address this.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Working in partnership with Dementia Friendly Orkney who already provide community based activities to increase participation, awareness and understanding of dementia. Ensure opportunities are accessible to everyone living with dementia, particularly those who may be at risk of isolation by providing equipment.Promote dementia friendly access to the wide range of existing community opportunities.
