About this cause

We're a local charity run entirely by volunteers. We preserve, protect and maintain green sites around Burgess Hill (the Green Circle) for the local community and we conserve and survey the local wildlife population - particularly on Bedelands nature reserve, the largest and most diverse of these sites. To promote this, we organise FREE events throughout the year, including school holiday activities of an educational but enjoyable nature, such as pond dipping, bug hunts and meadow-sweeping. The only events for which there is a nominal charge is for winter talks where we have to hire a small hall and pay a speaker. Our volunteers keep the footpaths free of intrusive undergrowth to benefit the entire public; we also consult with local councils on environmental aspects of local planning.

How this cause brings people in the community together

By providing more FREE events we promote awareness of the importance of conserving wildlife and its varied habitats for the whole community, not only for people's interest, education and enjoyment, but for the scientifically-proved therapeutic, calming effect of the countryside after a stressful day, or for those with emotional or psychological problems.
