Assist Teignbridge
Social Inclusion
We want to attract volunteers and alleviate isolation and loneliness for older people who are disadvantaged by health and mobility issues.
About this cause
The Charity's aims are the promotion of volunteering, and the relief of those in need in Teignbridge on account of age, ill-health, disability, or their caring responsibilities, by the provision of advice and services calculated to relieve those needs. Fully-trained staff deliver a range of not for profit charged-for services for the elderly in their own homes. In addition to these services we run a volunteer centre and a free Community Support Scheme in the more local communities of Teignmouth, Dawlish and the surrounding areas. We provide information and advice and, through volunteers, a range of free support services to older people at risk of a deterioration in health and well-being who may be struggling to remain living independently at home and find themselves isolated and lonely.
How this cause brings people in the community together
As well as supporting the elderly, people in the local community who wish to help others are encouraged and supported to find a suitable placement with appropriate training and supervision. They have an opportunity to make friends and experience the fulfilment of helping others in need. Evaluation has evidenced volunteers experience an increase in confidence whilst reducing their own isolation.
