About this cause

Wigton Youth Station is an established youth provision within the small rural market town in North Allerdale. Our aim is to provide every young person with a positive experience of youth, encouraging them to reach their potential. This has been implemented over 18 years through identifying issues and concerns around community exclusion, societal isolation, generational gaps, disability awareness and lack of mutual respect. Our young people worry about the real possibility of being drawn into youth crime and not being able to access the appropriate support if needed. We aim to achieve meaningful relationships with 'safe' adults, develop an understanding that our young people aren't alone with their fears and concerns, have fun but manage risk and establish & build resilience.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We know levels of anti-social behaviour are on the increase in our town through discussion with local police officers and PCSO's. Our aim is to ensure these young people do not enter the youth justice system, but instead behave in a positive way in the community. We are proud of our long standing, relationship with the young people and are perfectly placed to deliver this preventative project.
