Birmingham Dogs Home Education Outreach
Young People
We would like to produce an educational book for key stage 1 and 2 pupils to learn the importance of dog safety and animal welfare.
About this cause
Birmingham Dogs Home takes in all the stray and abandoned dogs from across the West Midlands and South Staffordshire area. Last year we rescued over 3,200 stray dogs, some of which were in need of urgent medical care. We also have an Education Outreach programme which helps to bring topics such as safety around dogs, animal welfare and responsible ownership to schools across the local community. From Key Stage 2 and 3 all the way up to university students, each class is tailored to their age and has a big impact on their understanding of animals in the community. Our latest project is to have an illustrated story colouring book to help us deliver the message to key stage one and two pupils. We visit over 3,000 students every year and this will help make it fun and interactive for them.
How this cause brings people in the community together
By teaching pupils about dog body language, their feelings and how to be a responsible dog owners it will help teach them about being kind, considerate and how to be a good owner to all animals when they are old enough to be owners themselves. It will most importantly help keep them safe around dogs, how to approach and what to do in certain situations.
