The Spitler
Social Inclusion
We want to support digital inclusion of local residents and raise their confidence in IT by providing a neighbourhood Internet cafe.
About this cause
We are a CIO, set up in 2014 to take forward the running of the Spital Tongues Community Centre. We provide a meeting place for local residents, local groups and a venue for celebrations and events. Our objectives are to work with local authority, voluntary and other organisations to provide facilities for education, recreation and leisure-time occupation which will improve the quality of life for all local residents.
How this cause brings people in the community together
There are many local residents who are over 55 with limited access to Wifi or a printer. There are also a number of local residents who have to use the online benefits system. In addition to this, many elderly residents would like to learn how to use IT for contacting families, online booking, shopping but need help. It will also provide opportunity for students to engage with local community.
