Phoenix Bereavement Memory Days
Young People
We want to run Memory Days to help bereaved children and their families find a way to live with their grief and look forward with hope.
About this cause
We support children and young people when someone close to them dies. We offer one to one counselling for the most traumatised children, for example, those bereaved suddenly by suicide or accident. We offer days out and social events where children can meet each other and know they are not alone in their grief. We offer get-togethers for parents so that they can talk together and support each other. We also do family and group work where families can learn how to support each other. Bereavement in childhood can mean mental health and other problems, including drug & alcohol abuse in later life, but with the right support at the right time the children we support can learn how to look forward with hope knowing how to cope with their situation.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Bereaved families are very isolated, especially in such a rural county. Bringing them together to support each other really works, and creates a sense of a community that helps each other. Children who experience positive support at the time of bereavement are less likely to engage in anti-social behaviour or to be excluded from school.
