About this cause

The objectives of Change of Scene are to make a life changing difference for disadvantaged children. Our attendees, aged 6-18 years, often from the more socially deprived areas of Surrey and Hampshire, display a wide range of complex social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties causing them to flounder in mainstream education and so become either temporarily or permanently excluded; all are in urgent need of a life changing experience to help them fulfil their potential and enable them to return to sustainable education. With 1:1 care and attention, our attendees work with animals, learning animal husbandry and horticultural techniques, gaining life skills and nationally recognised qualifications. Our provision enables them to learn how to face and cope with life’s challenges.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Most of our attendees (79%) manage to re-engage with education, significantly increasing their life chances. A positive experience for the young people is hugely beneficial for their families, who are often struggling to cope with destructive behaviour. As a ripple effect, this has a positive impact on the wider community. Attendees gain skills they can utilise throughout their lives.
