We want to pay for the the transport of the children coming from a distance to our summer event.
About this cause
We organise a week of workshops for youngsters (8-18) in Gaelic language and traditional music activities in July each year and weekly workshops in selected subjects during the whole year. We started this event in 1999 and it has become a popular and much valued opportunity for 60 -100 youngsters each year to come together for an educational but fun experience during the holidays and to strengthen the social contact of the youngsters from all the scattered communities on the island. To ensure that no one is discouraged from attending because of transport difficulties or costs we provide bus transport on each of the five days to and from the High School in Lamlash from all round the island. This can cost up to £1500 p.a.We are looking for support for this for the next 2 years i.e.£3000
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project helps to build and reinforce skills in our young people especially confidence and communication skills. Many of the young people have gone on to support both the Arran Pipe Band and Fiddle Club. Both of these groups, especially the Pipe Band, are a great tourist attraction and are asked to play at many of the island events, therefore helping to increase the island economy.
