About this cause

WiSE was set up in 2003 to serve the older people of Wetherby and surrounding villages through the provision of services to assist them to continue to live independently within their own homes and improve the quality of their lives. To this end we provide community-based activities, information, help and support, both directly from WiSE and also in conjunction with other agencies. With the prime objective of alleviating isolation and loneliness this is done via befriending and support schemes, an Advice and Information service, monthly support meetings for carers, a transport and gardening services, activities and entertainments, two Well-being Cafes and a Community Café. We are now paying extra attention to assisting dementia sufferers to live as well as possible with the condition.

How this cause brings people in the community together

An ongoing project, the Cafe serves the older people of the area, offering a friendly and comfortable venue for the elderly to use as a meeting place, to feel comfortable, relaxed and meet friends and family. The café offers good quality food and drink and will also offer advice on the importance of well-being and healthy eating. The example is set by using good quality produce ,sourced locally.
