Vineyard Compassion – Causeway Foodbank
Other
We want to continue to tackle food poverty in Ballycastle and the Causeway Coast and Glens area by running nutritional cookery courses.
About this cause
Vineyard Compassion is a Northern Ireland based, grassroots, community charity based in Coleraine. The charity, established in 2012, offers a holistic approach to tackling poverty and its underlying root causes in the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council. Vineyard Compassion supports those who are disadvantaged, socially excluded or suffering financially due to low income, benefits or unemployment. The support Vineyard Compassion offers is available at no cost to everyone in the community, regardless of belief, race or sexual orientation. Through our 19 projects, our 296 volunteers provide over 8,400 support sessions to individuals/families annually and during 2016 were effective in meeting their needs by distributing 11,070 emergency meals to local families in need via foodbank.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Causeway Foodbank provides short term, emergency food for individuals/families in crisis while a long-term strategy is developed. Frontline care professionals refer clients, issuing Food Vouchers that provide balanced and nutritional meals for 3 days. Foodbank centres open daily in Ballycastle, Portstewart and Coleraine. We want to support clients to engage with courses like 'Eat well spend less'.
