Gloria's Girls Domestic Abuse Support Group
Social Inclusion
We want to be able to provide counselling for women and therapy materials to help them and their children recover from abuse.
About this cause
Our organisation supports hundreds of people per year through our Foodbank distribution centre, weekly soup lunch for those at risk of social isolation, free Sunday dinners for those who have accessed the Foodbank or are at risk of social isolation, literacy support, a Clothesbank, a community allotment to help people back into work and those with mental health issues and Gloria's Girls support group for women in the West of Gateshead who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse. It is this aspect of our work we wish to seek funding from the Coop scheme. We currently support women from aged 20 to 70. We provide emotional and practical support plus therapeutic crafts.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Abuse does not just affect the woman who is the victim. It affects their children, their families and friends. Emergency response to abuse in terms of the emergency services etc costs the community as does the reliance on benefits, therapies, housing etc With a local support grouo where we can directly supoort practically and emotionally as an early intervention reduces reliance on benefits etc.
