About this cause

We are a small group of volunteers who have spent the last 40 years fundraising so that we can support people both locally in Gloucestershire and nationally who are affected by muscular dystrophy. Locally, we provide grants and support for people affected by muscular dystrophy. This can help with expensive equipment or adaptations in the home that might be required because of their disability. The aim is to help people live as independently as possible. We also provide a support network for newly diagnosed people in Gloucestershire and the Forest of Dean, so that no one needs to feel alone or unsupported when they receive a diagnosis. We also support the wider efforts of Muscular Dystrophy UK - who provide support and information, advocacy, campaign, and fund research for treatments.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Approximately 600 people in Gloucestershire have muscular dystrophy. For many it can be an isolating experience and our Muscle cafes could therefore have wide reaching benefits in the local community, giving confidence and support to people affected so that they can contribute more in society.
